Successful Hair and Make Up for TV and Film- Lesson notes

What makes a successful hair and makeup for TV and Film?
 When watching films, think about what makes it work? what era is it? what does the hair say about the character?
Think about versatility in the design- how can it suit different moods and situations?
Is there a running theme?
What movement does the hair have?
How does this affect the character?

Hair: To think about
  • Versatile style- day, night, eve, different situations
  • Allows movement according to character
  • Wig hair lines must not show
  • Hair must compliment skin/make up
  • Synthetic hair and wigs should be avoided unless planned
  • Details must be considered
  • Colours must compliment lighting/sets/costume
Makeup: To think about
  • HD perfection
  • No unintentional blemishes/smudges
  • Consideration of hair colour
  • Consideration of character
  • Consideration of lighting
  • Is it going to look like it was applied by the character or a make up artist?
  • Products that suit the skin type
  • Additional/special effects
